One minute you’re… well, maybe not exactly on top of the world, or even the ratings, but you’re doing okay and you’re a superhero and you’ve got a second season. You’re doing okay. You’re fighting a villain.

And then you wake up and it’s all gone.

No more super, my powers are totally AWOL. No more hero; since I’m the only survivor of the destruction of half my hometown, they’re blaming it on me. I’m on the front page of the Pulse and it’s not because the show’s doing well. My friends are dead and there’s this insane superhero registration act and Captain America — CAPTAIN FUCKING AMERICA — is on the run and I just keep hoping it’s a nightmare or some villain screwing with the timeline or something, anything, one of a million things that could make this not real.

I closed my eyes and everything changed. Makes it hard to go to sleep; what if it gets worse? But if I go to sleep then maybe I’ll wake up and it’ll be better.

I just want to wake up.
