(*) Aeons/summons were created by the Cetra with the aid of the Planet. They are the spirits of powerful leaders and priests of the Cetra who remained outside the lifestream cycle to aid their descendents.
(*) The first war started right after the founder of Shinra died. (That would be the original Phineas, the one Finn was named after.) A couple of Wutaian investors tried a hostile takeover. Amon, Finn’s dad, didn’t take too kindly and… overreated just a little bit. Two of the investors were also related to the Imperial family. The Lord at the time… also overreacted. Wutai moved against Shinra on Midgar’s soil. The country had to respond to what seemed like an act of war against it. Amon was eventually able to parley that into the early stages of controlling Midgar’s government. Wutai wasn’t expecting Midgar’s reaction… Godo didn’t realize the mayor would take it personally, and he didn’t count on Amon being a capable leader at 22.
(*) Regarding university and age: the University at Midgar was actually something of a “tertiary education” in Hojo’s day; you were expected to have a couple of years of real world experience as well as a basic temperance school education. The average freshman was 19 or 20.
