Shinra
Founded by Phineas Shinra I in 1951 ac, the Shinra Electric Power Company began as a corporation devoted to providing electric power derived from materia sources to the people of Midgar. It soon branched into appliances that ran directly on materia power. Now, the company provides power, transportation, medical care and social services to most of the world.

Janus
Begun as a small fleet of fishing boats owned by the Janus family in 1915 ac, eventually moving into water and land transportation, the Janus Corporation at one time employed most of the population of the city of Junon, developed steam powered trains and made great advances in open-water transportation. On the death of Roan Janus in 1999 ac, the corporation’s ownership transferred to his only daughter Deirdre Janus, and was incorporated into the Shinra Electric Power Company owned by her husband, Phineas Shinra II.
